Why I no longer work with or have faith in St. Expedite the Patron Saint for the impatient.

Today, April 19th, is the feast of St. Expeditus. I feel compelled to write about why I no longer work with or have faith in St. Expedite, the Patron Saint of the Impatient.

1.  In the 1960s, Saint Expedite was one of many saints from the early Church to have their feast day taken away, be de-canonized, and have several statues taken down. They concluded that the traditions surrounding Saint Expeditus were unfounded and that he never existed or accomplished any of the miracles that had been passed down in many stories throughout the ages.

Most likely, a deity did exist; however, St. Expedite was not his name. It was, as I and others believe, an African deity being depicted as a Catholic saint. Many of the baptized enslaved people during the Caribbean slave trade refused, rightfully so, to give up their traditional beliefs, and as a necessary aspect of survival, they renamed their spirits after the Catholic saints of their oppressors.

For instance, in Voodoo, the image of St. Expedite is frequently connected to the Lao spirit Baron La Croix, a lwa of sexuality and the dead, as well as to Baron Samedi, who is connected to the underworld and the dead. Thus, these African deities are shown as Catholic saints, along with a host of other deities. I am aware of this, and since I find the Catholic version to be less severe, I have made it a point to use it for the Saints that I do deal with.

2. It's commonly claimed that you should never ask Expedite for help unless you are willing to repay him for the good he performed in the form of pound cake and tributes after the work is finished. If you do not, he will take back all of the good he did for you and more. It reminds me of the terrifying ordeal I went through as a youngster when I was forced to go to church and had to kneel like a beggar to appease a fake jealous sky daddy.

A fake God that was so cruel that you will face his wrath and anger and be thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone if you do not live in fear of him and give your tithes. Yes, give 10% of what you earned to a church that does not help people so the pastor can live better than you and travel around in a fancy car while you take the bus. So with Saint Expedite If your requests are granted and you fail to place an advertisement in the newspaper or online and you haven't kissed his ass enough, you have to worry about ending up in a worse situation than before because he will take away what was granted and more. I am not going to do a ritual for someone and have the burden of that deliberate psychological manipulation on my back.

3. The patron saint of those who are impatient and want quick outcomes is St. Expedite. Devotees invoke St. Expedite to obtain the fortitude to resist delaying what needs to be done. A wide variety of people procrastinate. My issue is only with the procrastinators who have narcissistic personality disorder, which is tied to laziness, delusions, and entitled behavior. There are no guarantees with spiritual work. And these are the folks who want a saint to accomplish for them what they should be doing for themselves, have a long grocery list of items they want to tack on to one candle, lack accountability, and are inactive. If I can help it, I refuse to placate and assist people who refuse to get off of their asses and do their part in spiritual work.

So there you have it: 3 reasons why I do not deal with Saint Expeditus. I am all about spiritual diversity, so I will not knock you if it works for you. Give me the same courtesy. Do what works for you unapologetically, without bashing me and trying to change my mind about it. Because I will ignore you. Good Day.
